“Dance with them that brung ya.”
— An old Texas expression of loyalty
One of Loren Mortenson’s favorite quotes, he fashioned the perfect vehicle to perpetuate that mantra when he formed the Mortenson Family Foundation on January 1, 1997. Loren continues to cull income he derives from decades of dedicated and hard-nosed business work in the Greater Madison Community, and funnel it into an entity that should have the capacity to give back to the region for near perpetuity. The Dane County area will reap incredible social and philanthropic rewards for many years to come for its excellent choice of preferred business partner. The many long-term commercial relationships involving Loren and the community laid the groundwork for ongoing success in real estate, finance and investment, insurance, and most importantly — job creation coupled with true wealth formation for employees and their families. Little did the community know in the 1970’s that by investing their trust in Loren, he would pay them back a thousand fold for decades to come through his philanthropic acts, as embodied in the Mortenson Family Foundation.
— Bradley L. Hutter
